The photographer set out to find something invisible—their mother, who had passed away long ago.
They began by observing the trees their mother had loved, tracing her presence in what still remained, and trying to remember her hairstyle.
Their mother was beautiful. The photographer believed that the most beautiful part of their own body was their ears—perhaps because they felt like a place where something had been inherited, or where memory might still listen. They photographed them, hoping to find something of her there.
This work is an attempt to question whether emotions can become images, and whether images can ever make the invisible visible.
By chance, the camera they were using broke, and the negatives came out completely black. They adjusted the brightness and contrast, digging into the pixels as if something hidden might still be revealed.
In the end, was there truly something to uncover—or was the act of searching itself the only thing that existed?
