Walls and a Roof (2020)
During the pandemic, many people tried to go back to their “home” when things felt unsafe. Some returned to their home countries, while others wanted to but couldn’t—because going back also meant facing other problems or dangers.
This brings up some important questions: Does everyone have a safe and welcoming home to return to? Do we really understand that the pandemic didn’t affect everyone in the same way—and that it was much harder for some than for others?
반지를 떨어트렸을 땐 황급히 반지를 줍는 것보다 그 반지가 어디로 흘러가는지 눈을 떼지 않고 좇는 게 중요했다. 반지가 어디쯤에 있는지 알고 있으면 언젠가는 주울 수 있으니까. 깊은 하수구에 빠지지 않길 바라면서. 홀가분한 손가락이 익숙해지지 않을 정도로 길지 않은 시간이길.
When you dropped your ring, it was more important to follow where the ring was flowing rather than to try to pick up the ring in a hurry. If you know where the ring is, you can pick it up someday. Hoping the ring didn’t fall into the deep sewer, hoping it was not enough time for your finger to get used to the emptiness.
